Adobe Updates Reader/Acrobat To Address Vulnerabilities

Adobe has at last released patches to Reader and Acrobat that address major security flaws that have been publicly known for months.
First published as a proof-of-concept PDF file by a researcher Didier Stevens, the hack, when combined with social engineering techniques, could easily allow for code to be executed on the target machine when a user simply opens an infected PDF.
Adobe's updates to Reader/Acrobat (to version 9.3.2) includes fixes to over 17 vulnerabilities, the Stevens-exposed exploit among them. The update is being released in advance of Adobe's regular quarterly release schedule (the next update was originally scheduled for July 13), though the next quarterly release will come out on schedule, on Octover 12.

Five iPhone Applications Every Pilot Needs

Smart phone applications continue to rise in popularity and can now be used by aviators. If you are a private, commercial, or sport pilot, you might find these ingenious programs very useful for your flying endeavors.
PilotPCG. This app for iPhone and iTouch is a useful guide for seasoned aviators, student pilots still undergoing flight training, or novice aviators who are fresh out of flight school. It contains more than 1,300 bold terms. These terms have been called such since they appear in boldface in the FAA Pilot/Controller Glossary, the authoritative reference book that all pilots must have a copy of. With the PilotPCG, you no longer have to constantly check your computer or be in possession of a thick book to double-check aviation terms. With a press of a button, you get quick and ready access to the information wherever you are.
AeroWeather. This app is for use in iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone models. The application enables access to the latest weather conditions and weather forecasts of any particular location. So whether you're a student pursuing aviation training, a commercial or a sport pilot, you'll get to plan your flight schedules more carefully using this app.
Wind Aid. An application for the iPod touch and iPhone, the program functions by calculating both headwind and crosswind conditions, especially if data on runway wind speeds and directions are not readily available. So whether piloting a massive airliner or a light sport aircraft, you'll get to properly prepare for takeoff or landing as you know exactly the wind conditions you're up against.
FlightTrack Pro. This is an application for iPad, iPhone, and Android phone units. It provides updates on the flight schedules and delay forecasts in airports around the world. Even student pilots still attending flight school will find this program useful, especially if the training is done in a controlled airport. If the student pilot is unfamiliar with the airport, then he or she can readily view the particular port's map with the use of the application.
JetFueling. Meant for use in iPhone and iPod touch, this program provides readings on the currently available fuel on board. This way, the precise quantity of fuel that needs to be poured can be readily calculated. This application is very useful for pilots and technicians who are all involved in refueling tasks on commercial airliners. Of course, even recreational aviators requiring refueling of light sport aircraft, for example, can take advantage of this application.
These are just a few applications we have found useful no matter what your aviation experience may be.
Our Florida Sport Pilot Flight Center was created to lead the Sport Pilot industry in safety and Florida flight training. We are dedicated to flight training and providing an environment to make your training experience fun, while also providing the safest and best maintained aircraft in Central Florida.

Server Hardening - What Are The Ideal Ways to Tackle This?

In most companies, the task of server hardening is usually something that is outsourced to companies offshore. With issues of security, it is best to have the brightest of people to work on your servers so that nothing is left to chance. There are many things here that need to be tackled, without which things can really take a turn for the worse. When an outsourced company tackles these issues, it becomes somewhat easier to understand and perhaps even getting it done the first time around. Instead of paying the price and then fixing the issues, it might be smart to probably get it right from the very beginning.
However, some companies still expect their employees to perhaps be in charge of server hardening and ensure that things are taken care of as necessary. With training, it is possible that some issues can be dealt with. But, without experience, no amount of training can take care of all the security issues at once. This is the thing about the concept that you might perhaps want to look into and consider in the long run. A lot of unnecessary expenses should ideally be avoided at all costs.
By choosing a smart company to go ahead with server hardening, you should be able to easily outsource the critical tasks and let the employees worry about regular maintenance and other tasks that could use their attention. In this manner, the costs will not be overwhelming and security will not take a backseat. The cost of recovery can definitely be overwhelming and might result in a lot of money being spent which might not necessarily be available. This will be like the classic case of being penny wise and pound foolish. Over a period of time, this could eat into the profit margins and even bring the company down.
Thus, before reaching such a scenario, it is best to follow efficient practices and ensure that things like server hardening are handled by professionals that are aware of what they need to do and how to get things working and off the ground with ease. This is a very rudimentary aspect that can help in ensuring that the servers are catered to and are not left to fend for themselves. Most server operating systems are designed to facilitate instant communication, which means that security is normally not a top priority here.
Therefore, to not let these things affect your network and bring it down in the process, it is strongly recommended that you participate in things like server hardening which can easily help with network management and ensure that nothing is really left to chance. The speed of implementation is also another reason to strongly consider opting in for this.

Speed Up Internet Explorer

Nobody likes a slow internet browser, and when it comes to slow Internet Explorer has a bad reputation of being slow, clunky and an overall pain. Browsers such as Google Chrome or Fire Fox offer a much better user experience (well at least in my opinion), but if you insist on using Internet Explorer here are a couple ways to speed it up.
The first thing you can do is remove all the extra add-ons explorer likes to jam into its browser. The more of these add-ons you have the slower that browser becomes. To remove any unwanted add ons click on tools. If you're using Internet Explorer 9 it will look like a small gear in the top right corner of the page.
From their click it and scroll down to where it says manage add-ons, click that and a list of all the add-ons currently installed on your browser will be displayed. From here simply scroll down the list and click on every add on you want to disable.
Another option that's available is something called Google Chrome Frame. It's a free download like everything Google makes. Its purpose is to speed up explorer, especially older versions 7 and 8. It also allows its users to be able to use HTML5 and other technologies that Internet Explorer doesn't support. Simply download it and it should start working automatically.
You can also change the setting so that it doesn't check for new versions of cached sites. To do this click on internet options (click the gear looking button again also known as tools) go to browsing history and click on settings. From here either choose under temporary internet files one of the following
a. Every time I start Internet Explorer, which might slow down the browser the first time you run it. It should run faster after though.
b. Never, this won't sync any cached pages.
And finally you can also speed up Internet Explorer by sorting through your favourites list and deleting any links you don't use anymore. A large number of favourites can have an impact on its speed and slow it down, so it's always a good idea to spend a little time and clean out you're favorites list.
Hopefully these tips will help if your currently using any version of explorer and drastically improve that browsers speed and load time. Which will keep you from ripping you're hair out in frustration.

Notebook Computer Reviews: Read First or Regret Later

The history of the computer can be traced back to the year 1642, when French mathematician and scientist Blaise Pascal invented the Pascaline. Back then, it was considered a revolutionary invention, but it only featured one function, which is to do addition and nothing else. Thanks to the rapid development of technology, computers today can do lots of different things and they are available in many different sizes. Nowadays, almost everyone has a laptop or notebook computer. However, a lot of people can't tell the difference between a laptop and a notebook.
A notebook is slightly different from a laptop in some aspects. It is usually equipped with a long life battery that can last up to 4 or 5 hours, so you can use it for a longer period of time. It is also very light and thin. Generally a notebook computer has a 12-14 inch TFT screen and it does not have internal DVD/CD drivers. However, it usually comes with an external DVD driver. It is also generally more expensive than a laptop; it gets more expensive if it is thinner and lighter. There are so many brands that offer various models of notebooks with different storage capacities and processor speeds. If you would like to find one that suits your needs, it is always better to read notebook computer reviews from reliable sources. Thus, it will give you an insight into whether the particular notebook is what you need.
On the other hand, a laptop computer is a type of portable computer that is generally bigger and heavier than a notebook computer. It only has 2-3 hours of battery life and it features a 14-17 inch widescreen TFT display. The good thing about laptop compared to notebook is that it comes with an internal DVD-ROM or DVD-RW driver, so you do not need to purchase an external driver to play your movie DVDs. Furthermore, a laptop is also upgradeable. You can easily replace your old RAM card with a new and better one to improve the performance of your laptop.
These days, you can even buy a netbook computer. A netbook is much smaller and lighter than a notebook and laptop. The battery can last up to 8 hours and it comes with a 8-10 inch screen. Since it is equipped with a less powerful processor, you can't really use a netbook computer for multitasking or for entertainment purposes. It generally doesn't come with an internal or external DVD driver, so you will need to purchase a separate external unit. This portable computer is recommended for those who are always on the go and need access to a computer frequently.
Portable computer surely makes life easier. Notebook or laptop computer is recommended for entertainment purposes whilst netbook computer is ideal for people who are always on the go.

Four Of The Most Common Computer Problems

As a computer user, you have most likely faced an issue with your computer at some point. There are several issues that can arise with computers. Here are four of the most common computer problems and their solutions.
1. Computer has Become Slow
This is the most commonly occurring problem. The main reason why your computer slows down is lack of maintenance. Improper management can result in a corrupted registry, fragmented data, unnecessary programs and malware. And, all these factors can make your system run slowly. To manage your computer properly, you should perform defragmentation, remove all unwanted programs, and install a good anti-malware.
2. Lockup, Freezes, and Blue Screens
These are also common computer problems. In majority of the cases these problems arise from the presence of spyware in your system. To avoid lockups, freezes, and blue screens, you should regularly update your spyware tool. New malware are constantly being created and not having an updated tool will make your system vulnerable to these malware.
If you have checked your system for spyware and found that there is none present in it, then you should update your hardware drivers. Communication between the computer and its different hardware components needs an up to date driver. Another way to avoid freezes is to increase the virtual memory. This will enable you to obtain more from the RAM of your computer.
3. The Computer Reboots/Turns Off
This is an issue that normally occurs due to a problem with the hardware. A cooling fan that is dirty or defective can cause this problem. This can cause the computer to automatically switch off. So, if the computer is giving out some extra heat, clean the fan and check if it is functioning properly. If everything is fine with the fan, see if the power supply is ok - the cables may not be connected properly.
4. Strange Sounds and Vibrations
This problem is almost entirely a hardware problem. The computer consists of many components. One of these components may become hinged. Wires can expand due to overheating. Electronic components can produce high pitch noises. Investigate the matter by running the computer with its case removed. If the problem is not simple, like a loose wire or fan issue, then leave it to an expert.
These are four of the common computer problems. Use the solutions provided to fix these problems. The darnedest PC issues may be a quick fix away.
Here is a simple method to increase your PC performance: How to Speed Up Your Computer. For a complete guide to computer hardware, support, software, virus detection, spyware removal, check out PC Support Hub.

Laptops and iPad Technology May Phase Out Desktops

Today, technology has become a little more user friendly and suitable for the mobility of our time, as many people on the move. Everywhere you go you see people using their cell phones, iPhone, laptops and net books. With this portability, many begin to wonder if the desktop is becoming obsolete.
A key factor that we have very thought in writing this article is to improve the functionality of a laptop, and unfortunately, the differences in this area between a laptop and desktop have different abilities. The laptops are designed for portability, not necessarily friendly, therefore you will usually not be able to upgrade hardware easily, and many programs do not work with the specifications for a laptop while the desktop is not hindered in this way.
When you begin to track users of consumption, you will notice that laptops are generally used for personal purposes, for a younger audience at the age of 15 to 25. It is used primarily for online activities and social networks. There are also business people who need the portability of a laptop for business or work on the fly.
While a desktop computer does not offer portability, offering the possibility of much more than the RAM of the laptop and have a faster processor and graphics cards. Desktop computer is generally used for businesses such as designers, financial consultants and developers of CAD. Many players also use the desktop at the same speed and capabilities of superior graphics and the mouse and keyboard differences. Another downfall of the laptop running on battery, so if you are not connected, limited to the life of the battery.
Many people buy desktop PCs due to its much lower price tag than a laptop. Price will certainly be a problem for most users, especially those who use computers only in things such as Internet browsing, social networking, e-mail and instant messaging. But we must also consider the introduction of Apple iPhone, the reduced price and functionality that users are more casual looking. It provides them access to, social networking on the Internet, e-mail as well as hundreds of new applications that can be added.
Finally, it is unlikely that the desktop is completely erased, unless, of course, the price of laptops is significantly reduced, and come with easy upgrade options, and may offer pre-packaged add-ons such as USB keyboards and mice. Companies are likely to always use the desktop, however, more than just looking to use their computers for browsing, social networking and email will probably be out of the desktop computer and iPhone or low-end laptop.

How Can I Fix My Laptop? DIY Laptop Repair

"How can I fix my laptop?" is a common question among laptop users. The job is not as hard as the repair personnel might lead one to believe. While individual problems might vary between laptops, some of the problems are common to all makes and models. The answer to the question: "How to fix my laptop" can be found by using a little intellect. This article aims to provide some helpful tips for fixing laptops.
Perhaps the most common problem occurring in all laptops is overheating. It leads to hang-ups, shutdowns and even hardware damage. A very good solution is to purchase an (often) inexpensive laptop cooling pad. Also, if comfortable with the procedure, one can open up the laptop and clear any dust that has accumulated in the cooling system. Dust hinders the cooling system.
Being portable is a blessing and a curse. People have a habit of eating and drinking with their machines. A spill can ruin the keyboard. What to do in this situation? The first thing is to turn off the machine, and then try to get rid of the spill. If draining is needed, it must be done at the CD/DVD drive side of the laptop as it has less electronics. After drying, reboot the system to make an assessment of the damage. If needed the keyboard must be replaced.
You may also experience a problem with the battery - it may be recharging quickly and discharging quicker. Well the bad news is that you can't do much about it. Consider this a myth buster if you want but reconditioning or repacking services are just a waste of money. The best option is to buy a new battery pack whenever the need presents itself.
Some users frequently ask how to fix my laptop power jack. It seems that the power jack in some laptops wears out with constant use. Well if the problem is with the soldered components of the jack, a soldering iron is all you need to open your laptop and fix the problem. Replacing the jack is required if the problem is with the jack itself.
Listening to a lot of stuff on your laptop, can leads to another commonly encountered laptop problem: wearing out of the headphone jack. Many times this happens due to loosening of the headphone jack's solder points. Soldering back the loose points is often enough to make them functional again.
